If you have a Hewlett Packard (HP) printer and it is has been giving you problems lately, you may want to go through a few troubleshooting steps to see if you can solve the problem on your own. Because HP is a common brand, there are several online tools that can assist, as well as diagnostic tools on your computer if you use an HP model computer as well.

HP Printer Assistant

The HP Printer Assistant is a diagnostic tool on your computer that will allow you to troubleshoot common problems. Once you advise the program to troubleshoot, it will essentially do all of the work for you to find a problem. In some cases it is able to fix the problem, while in others you may just be advised of the issue, but not a solution to fix it. One common problem is missing network protocols. This sometimes happens when an automatic install occurs, especially with Windows 8. If this happens, make sure all of your installs are up to date. The likely symptom if this occurs is the inability to get online.
